What is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic Violence, Battering, Abuse … there are many words used to describe what one person is willing to do to control their intimate partner. It is a nightmare for many individuals. The fact that someone we love or care about would harm us emotionally or physically is devastating. Please know that you are not alone.

The Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) exists because battering by an intimate partner is the single greatest cause of injury to women. Trauma and its impact on women, men, and children has been well documented as a significant public health concern.

Our intentional goal with DVIP here in Stanly County is to provide comprehensive support and advocacy services to victims/survivors, focusing on immediate and long-term safety, empowerment, dignity, and hope. In collaboration with the community, we strive to end domestic abuse through education, accountability, and social justice.
